In the beginning
Around 1996, my husband and I chanced upon a completely different lifestyle after retirement. We heard from various people at annual recreational vehicle shows that you can actually live in a motorhome (full-time), travel around the country and do it affordably.
The RV lifestyle seemed very appealing to us and we began soaking up every magazine article and book on the subject. After much research, discussion and a desire to see the country, we made the decision and set our tentative retirement date for August 2003.
Our first experience with an RV was a 1987 Winnebago Minnie-Winnie 26' C-class which we purchased from a neighbor. It was in very good condition and had only 50,000 original miles. During the next four years we spent every chance we could traveling. We vacationed in Myrtle Beach each winter, Cape Cod every summer, spent weekends at the Rhode Island shores and discovered we always dreaded having to return home rather than continue traveling.

Later we joined the FMCA Club and Escapees RV Club and started attending rallies. This supplied us with more vital information, tips on full-timing, purchasing an rv, and we met some really nice people who belonged to a caring community on wheels.

In July 2002 we put our house on the market. Much to our surprise it sold in one day. We had originally decided to purchase a 35' Winnebago Adventurer but because we got our asking price we opted for the 2002 Itasca Horizon 39QD. On Sept. 10th we moved to Highland Orchards RV Resort in North Stonington, CT and anxiously awaited "R" day Aug. 1,2003).
