March-Cont'd
March 2004 - Continued
While at The Ranch we visited the ghost town of Stanton, AZ about
six miles east on a bumpy dirt road in the middle of the desert where
the Lost Dutchman Mine Association was located. Here residents still
mine the hills for gold and precious stones sometimes striking it rich,
sometimes not but all for good fun. There's a history in the town that the founder, an Irishman, was shot in his home and the hotel has genuine ghosts which have been witnessed by guests.
We visited the ancient cliff-dwellings of
Montezuma's Castle in Camp Verde, AZ off
I-17 north where approximately 200 Indians lived
and farmed for over three centuries.
The ruins are decaying but the with the help of
displayed information signs you can visualize
what their lifestyle was like. It remains a mystery that all signs of life disappeared in a
short time.
We are now staying for a month at RoVer's Roost in Casa Grande, AZ.
It's located 50 miles south of Phoenix and 60 miles west of Tuscan. It's
a SKP-Co-Op park which costs only $175/month. Di is scheduled for four more weeks of physical therapy and there is so much to see and do that I'm sure it will fly. The weather has turned hot (well into the 90's) but the air is dry. We started our daily walks yesterday, leaving at 6:30-7:00 am, well before the sun heats up, (It's actually very pleasant at that hour) followed by coffee and breakfast outdoors. Now this is retirement.
