Zion Bryce
June 2004 - Continued..........
Our first hike at Bryce was the Navajo-Loop which decended down into the "natural" amphitheatre by way of switchbacks and followed a trail through the tall cone-shaped hoo-doos and eventually connected with the Queen's Garden trail which quickly acended to the rim. (approx. 5 miles)
At Red Rock Canyon we hiked the Buckhorn trail which ascended upwards towards to the steep and narrow Golden Wall trail.
On our last day at Bryce, we enjoyed a two-hour trail ride through the Red Rock Canyon in the Dixie National Forest.

While Don fished the Seviere River in nearby Hatch, Utah, I spent an afternoon in Panguitch where the 9-11 Memorial quilt was being displayed in celebration of the town's "Quilt Walk"Festival.
During the second half of June we traveled east stopping at Green River, Utah then onto Moab where the Arches National Park is located. We drove the distance of the park, approximately 20 miles to Devil's Garden and hiked to the Landscape Arch and later to the Windows Arches. On Sunday, we celebrated Father's Day with a ranger-escorted hike into Fiery Furnace and dinner at Miguel's Baja Mexican Grill where we feasted on Shrimp and Scallops Ajillo.

Traveling south and located just outside Montrose, Colorado are the Black Canyons of the Gunnison National Park. Towering on either side of the canyon are the West Elk and San Juan Mountains. Far below flows the Gunnison River. The canyon, formed over two million years ago, offer spectacular views for all to enjoy.
During summer months, the local town of Montrose sponsers street music each Thursday encouraging tourists to enjoy their restuarants and coffeehouses. We highly recommend "Camp Robber" where we feased on western smoked barbeque and
later enjoyed jazz at the local coffee house.
