Oregon and Northern Cali
September, 2004
Our week in Ocean Shores was spent getting chores done. A slash in one of the tires on our toad
car required getting a replacement. After several trips to Albadeen we found a close match. (This
being our second damaged tire since replacing all four in April. In Sequim, we were unable to use our washer- dryer so we caught up on laundry. All chores done, it was time to have some fun.
Ocean Shores' sand is solid and vehicles are allowed to drive on it freely. There are horse corrals set up right on the beach eager to provide trail-riding . Kite-flying, beachcoming, surfing, and ATV riding were abundant on Labor Day weekend.

On Monday, (Labor Day), we took the half-hour ferry from Ocean Shores to Westport for the day.
We feasted on Northwestern clam chowder, Tillamook ice cream, and homemade fudge. After browsing
the gift shops and walking the beach, we were homeward bound on the return ferry.

Rockaway Beach, Oregon was a wonderful change. Just down from our resort (Paradise Cove) were seven miles of white-sandy beach. The powerful surf prevented swimming into deep waters. Surfing is the sport of choice. But wetsuits must be worn due to the cold water temperatures. At certain times small earthquakes occur underwater causing what they call Tsunami's or tidal waves which wash away some of the cliffs. There are warnings all along the route 101 shoreline. We visited the Tillamook Cheese Factory (Oregon's famous cheese) and the Blue Heron French Cheese Co.
