Route 66 All The Way...The Mother Road to California!
rvjournal090006.gif
We spent some time in Casa Grande, AZ to take care of items such as changing the oil in our toad-car, our dentist appointments, making future camping reservations, a visit to family in Phoenix, and a trip to the Tucson Botanical Gardens.
We arrived in Menifee, California on Sunday, October 16th. (Menifee is located south of Palm Springs off I-215). Our stay was for two weeks. The park had WiFi, so that was a plus. Unfortunately, the first three days it rained, so we spent some downtime indoors. Our first experience with California traffic was to the Pamona RV Show. There certainly is an "acquired skill" driving on the freeways. After viewing many of the 1,500 coaches we still walked away with a feeling of satisfaction with our coach.

While in the area, we visited Old Town, the original San Diego settlement, the Mission San Juan Capistrano, Coronado Island, the Gaslight District, and Seaport Village in downtown San Diego.
By contrast, Indio, CA, our next destination, which is located ~100 miles northeast is very cosmopolitan. It's near Palm Springs, a major golf capital and home to many celebrities, and has hundreds of shops, eateries, and numerous street fairs. (what we call flea markets, only posh!) Located nearby is the Santa Anna Mountains tramway, Joshua Tree National Park, and many Indian casinos. Although there is wealth all around, we feel very comfortable and relaxed staying in a camping resort. To quote a new aquaintance we met, (Annette from British Columbia) "we campers are all equal in our t-shirts and shorts.
