November 2006
We arrived in Yuma, Arizona on November 11th. (Veteran's Day) We familiarized ourselves with the city on Sunday and went to Algadonis, Mexico on Monday to purchase eyeglasses. (3 pairs for $300) Algadonis is a short 20 mile drive from Yuma just over the California border. It's a popular border town where Americans go to purchase eyewear and prescriptions, and have any dental procedure performed for a reasonable cost. There's also a tremendous variety of cultural items and gifts such as chimneas, pottery, stained-glass, clothing, and collectible items. We enjoyed a delicious Mexican meal and Margarita before heading back to Yuma.
Tuesday we cleaned house, ran errands and readied the motorhome to travel to Casa Grande,Arizona. While there,we'll spend a week visiting sister Angie and niece Cyndie in
Phoenix, pick up a few supplies at Camping World, and washing the RV and Jeep before heading to Texas for the holidays.
Yuma and it's surrounding area has a lot to offer. It boasts 91% of the possible sunshine hours each year. It has become a retirement mecca because of it's proximity to Mexico and California. It offers birding at the Imperial National Wildlife Refuge, hiking at the Picacho Recreation Area, Palm Canyon and the Painted Desert Trail, sand dunes that are located off I-8 at the Gray's Well Exit, rockhounding at Adair Range, Crystal Hill and Salton Sea. Also close by is the Imperial Date Gardens in Bard, CA where they offer tours and delicious date shakes.
We've made a promise to return to Yuma and spend at least one month enjoying all it's
activities and wonderful seasonal fall and winter weather.

While our stay in Pahrump, Nevada was mostly spent taking care of RV repairs and installing the tow system for the Jeep, we did manage to visit Death Valley National Park in California. It's approximately 100 miles west of Pahrump off route 95.
