The next day we drove into Seattle to visit the famous Pike's Place Market. You have to experience this place at least once in a lifetime. Rows and rows of beautifully arranged bouquets, farm-fresh fruits and vegetables, the famous "flying fish" at Pike's Place Fish Market, all sorts of artisan wares, food, food, and more food! Since we're avid customers of Starbucks, we just had to visit the "original" Starbucks coffee house.

Summer in the Northwest
We arrived in the Seattle area on July 24th. Some unsettling news from Don's doctor in
Aberdeen required that we lease a monthly site at Tall Chief RV Resort (a Western Horizon's park) in Fall City. We were more than thankful when the pulmonary specialist, Dr. Huseby at Polyclinic in Seattle delivered the good news...no cancer, just residual effects of his previously
diagnosed pneumonia.
"I think I'll take these"
We got a history lesson on how the city got it's name. It was named after Chief Seattle,
a leader of the Suquamish and Duwamish Native American tribes in what is now the state of Washington. He was a prominent figure with his people, a peacemaker, a well-spoken orater in his native language and he helped protect a small band of European-American settlers in what is now Seattle, from being attacked by other tribes. He formed a personal relationship with David Swinson, (Doc Maynard) an advocate for Native American rights. The chief's famous speech was in response to a treaty persuading them to sell two million acres for $150,000. Doc Maynard recommended that the city be named after the chief. A statue of Chief Seattle was erected in 1912, renovated in 1975 and stands at Tilikum Place in Seattle.
Since we have three weeks in the area, we'll be able to do some serious geo-caching as well as
some hiking at Mt. Rainier. Also, we're looking forward to Jennifer and Brandon flying into Sea-Tac airport on August 16th for a week's visit with us.
