August 2008
August weather in the Seattle area was everything we had heard. You swim in the pool one day with temps in the 90's, and then get out the raincoat the next day with cold, wet rain with temps dipping into the 50's. You learn to be prepared when you go sight-seeing taking along umbrellas as well as sunglasses. Luckily Jennifer and Brandon were able to enjoy a couple of warm days at the pool, a day of sight-seeing at Pike's Place and lunch at Ivar's Seafood in Seattle and a whole day at the Seattle-Woodland Zoo. We also introduced them to geo-caching (Brandon discovered a Spiderman figure in the cache) while enjoying music at a "free" concert at a park in Sammamish.

After we put Jen and Brandon on a plane back to San
Antonio, we moved up the coast to Birch Bay, Washington.
Birch Bay is about 5 miles from Canada's British Columbia
border. Our two week stay was spent cycling along
the coastline and geo-caching. While searching for one geo-cache called "Why did the chicken cross the road?" we nearly overstepped the border into Canada. The border
patrol were all over us. It seems the road was on Canadian
property. Who knew?
We also drove into Vancouver, B.C. for a day trip. We spent a few hours at the Metropolis which was second only to the Mall of America. The wait of over one hour in line back to the U.S. border discouraged us from returning for a second visit. In a couple of years we plan to return to British Columbia and hopefully pay a visit to Doug and Anne Haggen at their Cambell River retreat. We also haven't forgotten about Alaska, it's still on our radar.
