We arrived at Thousand Trails in Hershey, PA just as the fall foliage was coming to it's peak! What a treat since we haven't experienced Autumn in New England since fall of 2002. We toured the Hershey facilities (with complimentary candy treats, of coarse) where we also purchased a supply for the Trick-or-Treats on Halloween.
A lovely day was spent cycling along a bike route in Bird In Hand, PA. (yes...that's the name of the town) We witnessed Amish children at play, farmers plowing their fields to ready them for the winter months, we quenched our thirst with a delicious rootbeer drink at a farmstand, and most of all enjoyed the Farmer's Market in town where they encouraged "free" tastings of cheese, dips, meats, and candy. For me it was a free lunch!
Another daytrip we visited brother Joe and his wife Crystal in Lancaster. Joe is retired and works part-time and Crystal is slowly recovering and doing well. Crystal has a positive attitude that carries her through the hard times.

When we lived in Connecticut, we often attended the Scottish Games in Scotland, CT, held annually during Columbus weekend. So, during our short stay in Virginia, we attended the Meadows Highland Games & Celtic Festival in Doswell, Virginia. Events included the traditional field games, the Clan parade, continuous bands playing celtic/rock music all day and traditional Scottish foods, foods, and more foods.
Our all-time favorite is a "bridie". (a spicy beef turnover)
