October 2010
One of the most enjoyable things we ever did was to volunteer at the 2010 Albequerque Balloon Fiesta. The event took place October 1-10th. We were provided with free camping, free transportation and two free meals a day. We volunteered for seven days in the Balloon Discovery tent. Our job was to educate the public on the art and science of ballooning and leave with a good experience. Don was in charge of the balloon flight similator and he enjoyed every minute! He was really hamming it up with the kids. My job was either assisting with the quiz boards or basket weaving for the younger set. We were especially pleased to have had the experience of being on a chase crew. We actually helped to inflate, launch, and recover the balloon on the field. Ours was Broom Hilda (the witch) appropiate for upcoming holiday. As a reward of our efforts we will receive the "official" jacket.
A couple of weeks of downtime and we're off to volunteer at the San Antonio Missions for six months!
