Happy Cinco de mayo!
While staying at Gateway RV Park on the outskirts of historic Williams, AZ, we hiked the Bright Angel and South Kaibab Trails at the Grand Canyon. The views of the canyons were more spectacular than we ever imagined, especially when we witnessed the sunset at Hopi Point. The days were warm, (in the 70's and 80's) making the experience pleasant. Pack mules passed by on the narrow trails carrying riders both up and down the canyon. Wild flowers were scattered everywhere as spring gave way to summer. In an effort to increase the numbers of the endangered Condor, the park has released several, captivity-raised birds into the canyon and we had the pleasure of witnessing their magnificent flight several times. We also hiked the Boyndon Trail near Sedona and the Walnut Canyon Trail east of Flagstaff. ( Walnut Canyon is the site of over 100 cliff-dwellings once occupied by the Sinagua Indians in the 1400's.)
Don and I celebrated cinco de mayo (5th of May) with margaritas and mexican cuisine at the Poncho-McGillicuddy's Mexican Restuarant in downtown Williams.
