Ponderosa Park RV Resort in Lotus, California is a great area for outdoor activities. American River invites rafting and fishing, there's mountain biking and hiking. Just a few miles down the road is Sutter's Mill, site of the famous gold discovery in the 1850's. Nearby Pacerville, a former gold-mining town in the 1850's, you'll find the Thomas Kincaide Gallery, the famous Hangman Tree (where lynchings took place) and Apple Hill (a mountainous area just outside of town) where dozens of orchards and wineries are located. October is harvest season on Apple Hill and we were lucky enough to attend their October Harvest Festival. (they even had MacIntosh apples, native to our former home state of Connecticut.)

After a short stay at Walker River RV Resort in Smith, CA, we headed to one of our Western Horizons resorts in Pahrump,Nevada, located 60 miles east of Las Vegas. It even had a winery.) We enjoyed a wonderful pool and jacuzzi, ate dinner at their gourmet resturant, a day trip into Las Vegas (one day did it for us) and rode out to the China Ranch Date Farm in Tecopa, CA. (a beautiful palm date tree farm and bakery located far out into the desert near Death Valley.

At St. David RV Resort in St. David, Arizona, we met a very colorful "cowboy" named Panuco Bob, aka Bob Prinselaar from St. George, Utah. He's an expert marksman and goes around the
country competing in real western "shoot-outs" with other experts. He also writes cowboy poetry and read some to us along with colorful stories about the "old west." A very interesting fellow!
