2006 Travel Log
Here we are at Blue Mesa
Recreational Ranch in Gun-
nison, Colorado. This is our
home park with our Western Horizon membership. We're spending six weeks here and it's just glorious.
The weather is wonderful. 70's during the day and a cool 35-40 nights. Don has finally
gotten some serious fly-fishing in and I'm just relaxing with one book after another and snapping
pictures of the scenery, wildflowers and wildlife.
Bob Allen and Frank Mosher spent the week of June 3-10 as our guests in our rental cabin with all the comforts of home. They spent 6 days fishing the area streams and ponds in and around Gunnison, Lake City, and Crested Butte. Here's evidence of their fishing success.

View approaching Crested Butte
ranger described the geology, wildlife, building of the railroad, and shared stories about early settlers. One interesting story was of a Swedish immigrant who spent 42 years living as a hermit in the Black Canyon reservoir.
We also learned that the original town of Sapinero was flooded over and some of the original buildings and the town's population were moved to another location in order to create the Gunnison Lake and reservoir.

We took the Morrow Point Boat tour in the Black Canyon
of the Gunnison. It was a 1 1/2 hour ride in which a park
232 stairs and 1/2 mile hike to the
marina, view of the Gunnison and waterfall.
