March 2007
We received a free 4/day, 3/night visit to Thousand Trails Resort near Orlando and visited with Don's brother Ray from Connecticut. They winter in Polk City, Florida. We always include a visit to Plant City for their famous strawberry shortcake. During March they have a Strawberry Festival with food and entertainment. Those appearing this year included; Martina McBride, Gretchen Wilson,Clint Black and LuAnne Rhimes.
We fulltimers always try to connect with friends we've met along the way and Southern Trails in
Summerfield, Florida gave us that opportunity. Davvie and Bernie Ruble are a couple we met in
Green River, Colorado about three years ago. They are also originally from Connecticut. We had
a nice visit and agreed to meet up in June as they revisit their family.

We added satellite internet to our communications. It's really been wonderful. It's allowed us to
stay more closely in touch with family and friends. Especially now since the birth of our first
grandson, Brandon.

Don enjoys the set-up at each stop and the challenge of getting it up and
running the first try. It's also made uploading our webpage much faster.

Presently we're staying off I-75 in Unadilla, Georgia awaiting the International FMCA rally in Perry, Georgia. We signed up to volunteer this year, and it should be interesting to see what our assignment will be? While here,we had the opportunity to visit President Carter and Mrs. Carter in Plains, Georgia this past Sunday. While in town he teaches Sunday school at his church and after service allows visitors a photo with he and Mrs. Carter.

We've always admired his post-presidential involvement with Habitat For Humanity and genuine concern for the country. It doesn't hurt that both he and Mrs. Carter are avid fly-fishermen!

On March 1st, a tornado hit the town of Americus, just east of Plains, Georgia. It devistated businesses, homes, and the town's hospital. (which will take a year to re-open) We drove through it on our way to Plains. We've never witnessed a natural disaster like this and it left us with a decision to start volunteering more. One of our intersests is Habitat for Humanity. Our "home park" Escapees, in Livingston, Texas, has partnered with HFH. We're planning next year around efforts to start giving back through the Escapee's "Carevanners".
