August 2005
August - 2005
Our travels toward the west brought us to North & South Dakota, where early Native American and western history is abundant. We enjoyed the colorful town of Fargo,
with it's cowboy and ranching history as well as Bismarck,

the capital of North Dakota. Mandan, adjacent to Bismarck is the site of Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park, famous to General George Custer. Also located here is On-Slant Village, the long-ago abandoned home
for The Enchanted Highway

We found the plains and Black Hills of South Dakota
to be overwhelming in beauty and grace. Fellow RVer's had recommended visiting "Rapid City" and "The Badlands" in our travels. We were not disappointed! We visited Mt.Rushmore, with the impressive stone carvings of our four famous presidents, Custer's State Park with its roaming buffalo herd, Deadwood, with its infamous Wild Bill Hickok shootout, Wind Tunnel National Park with over 97 miles of caves beneath the Black Hills, Chief Crazy Horse Memorial and.......much more...... while soaking up the history and feeling a genuine sense of what it was like "back then." The Black Hills have such an enormous amount of history and interesting sights that we feel it requires an extended stay next time we're in this area.
